Coming from Houston on IH 10: 

Take the Luling exit 632 for Hwy 80. Turn right, heading toward the town of Luling 4.2 mi. 

 

(There’s a really nice Bucee’s on the NW corner of IH10 and Hwy 183, I’m sure you saw all the billboards on your drive - you will need to take a left and go under the interstate to get to Bucee’s - the cheapest ice and the cleanest bathrooms in Texas!)

Once you get to the middle of Luling turn right at the light onto S. Magnolia Ave/Hwy 80/Hwy 183  and go 0.2 mi.  Take the 3rd left, at the light, onto TX80 N. Continue to follow TX80 N.  20.4 mi.

       

Approximately 15 miles from Luling you will pass through the little town of Martindale. Martindale is a known speed trap, slow down! Make a note of your odometer reading as you pass the first traffic light in Martindale (the light is at the intersection of Hwy 80 and Hwy 142). It is approximately 3.8 miles from this intersection to the traffic light at Old Bastrop  Rd./CR101. 

Turn left onto Old Bastrop Rd./CR 101.  

Take an immediate left onto CR 102 (it is less than 100 yards from Hwy 80 to CR102). 

Go .5 mi. and take a right onto Pecan Park Dr.  (Note: CR 102 runs parallel to Hwy 80, and intersects 80 approximately one mile back towards Martindale. 

      

(If you arrive in the daylight, you may turn left onto CR 102 off Hwy 80, but it is a difficult and dangerous turn in the dark. The Wolf Creek RV Park office is located on CR102, just off Hwy 80).

Coming from Austin or San Antonio on IH 35: 

Take exit number 205, this is the Luling exit. Head South on Hwy 80 toward Luling. 

Go one and eight tenths (1.8) miles from IH 35 and then take a right at the traffic light onto Old Bastrop Rd./County Road 101 (Hays County 266). 

Take an immediate left at the first intersection you come to onto CR 102. 

Then go one half (1/2) mile and take a right at Pecan Park Dr. 

      

From either direction, it is approximately 1/2 mile from Hwy 80 to Pecan Park Dr. Turn onto Pecan Park Dr.

It is important that every driver knows, not only how to find our campground, but which sites you will be using.

So, first of all, please tell folks that on Google Maps we show up as the San Marcos Scout Camp (our real name is the San Marcos River Retreat).

Google will have you turn off county road 102 and onto Pecan Park Drive, then take you through Pecan Park Campground (the RV park owned by our neighbors) and past TG Canoes and Kayaks (our other neighbors) but then will lead you to our house, where Pecan Park Drive ends. It can be difficult to turn around if you drive to our house.  And folks don’t have any need to drive there anyway.  So that is why we have written these instructions. 

To get to our campground (and the river) Google should tell you to take a left as soon as you enter our property.  You enter our property when the blacktop ends and the gravel begins.  You should notice a “no trespassing” sign (attached to the mailboxes) a “San Marcos River Retreat” sign, some “Can Ban” signs, a Texas Parks and Wildlife River access sign, and a sign that tells them that we are AG land and not responsible for accidents.  Also, there will be a sign that says “Scout Camp” and “Cowboy Chapel” with an arrow that points left. 

That is where you take a left.  They should also notice the dumpster on the right side of the road at that point.  That is our dumpster (if you should need to dispose of any trash).

Then you will go past a Campground Registration canopy (you don’t need to register - we will come around on our golf cart and get you checked in at some point).  Then you will come to our campground gate. If it is shut, it won’t be locked but if someone has draped the chain over the post it will look locked.  The chain has a locked padlock on it, but you don’t need the combination.  Just lift the chain up over the post and you can open the gate.

Once you drive into the campground, you should look for another “Texas Parks and Wildlife leased fishing area” sign.  It will be on the left side of the road between sites 8 and 9.  That is the best access trail to the river.

You will pass the white building on the right side of the road.  That is the restroom and bathhouse. 

Your fee is $5 per scout per night plus $10 per adult per night for folks spending the night.  If you have some people who are just spending the day (not camping) their fee is $3 per day.  Y’all need to make sure that someone is keeping track of the numbers.  One person will pay for the whole group. We will be making rounds on our golf cart to collect the fees and get you registered.
