September has been a busy month! With a lot of work and help from friends over the summer, this weekend is the busiest of the year--every site is full with hundreds of scouts enjoying the beautiful San Marcos River.
We are happy that the Cowboy Chapel is ready to be rented again. Really it was undamaged in the flood except for its air conditioners, which have been replaced with a new, central unit. Partial power and electricity has been restored in the campground as well (the bathhouse has hot showers again!). So we are making progress towards being ready for the fall camping season.
Our first reservations for the chapel as a vacation rental are beginning in July, so it's ready not a moment too soon.
We are a Mom and Pop campground who have been in operation here at the San Marcos River Retreat for 25 years with a passion for conservation and preserving the beauty in nature for the next generation. We started our love for the San Marcos River back in the '70s when we discovered it through the Texas Water Safari. From there to here has been quite an adventure of leading river trips all over North America, being a canoe and kayak distributor, competing in decades of Water Safari's, and finally settling into life running a campground for boy scouts, youth groups, and church groups.
